It’s a recipe for disaster. We do this to force the materials to expand and shrink over and over. Why? Because we&amp;rsquo;re looking for that one microscopic gap in the seal. If moisture creeps in and hits the tungsten filament, the lamp pops the second you flip the switch.&#xA;We&amp;rsquo;d rather it pop in our lab than in your ceiling.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The battle with glass and metal&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;We use high-purity quartz and some &lt;a href=&#34;https://goldisgood.com&#34;&gt;pretty&lt;/a&gt; specific adhesives to keep the water out. But here&amp;rsquo;s the tricky part: glass and metal don&amp;rsquo;t play well together when &lt;a href=&#34;https://henruite.com&#34;&gt;things&lt;/a&gt; get hot. They expand at different speeds.&#xA;If the seal is too rigid, it cracks. If it&amp;rsquo;s too loose, water gets in.&#xA;During these tests, we keep a close eye on the glass. If we see any &amp;ldquo;clouding&amp;rdquo; or a bit of rust on the contact points, we go back to the drawing board. We tweak the coating or change the glue until it&amp;rsquo;s bulletproof.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The trade-off&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Now, you might wonder why we don&amp;rsquo;t just wrap the whole thing in a thick, waterproof box.&#xA;The problem is that thick casings block the infrared heat. You&amp;rsquo;d have a lamp that lasts forever, but it wouldn&amp;rsquo;t actually make you feel warm. You&amp;rsquo;d lose that &amp;ldquo;instant heat&amp;rdquo; feeling that makes these lamps worth having.&#xA;So, we spend our time obsessing over the lens transparency and the angle of the internal reflector. We want it safe, but we also want it to actually work.&#xA;We don&amp;rsquo;t guess when it comes to how long these things last. We run the tests, we break the ones that aren&amp;rsquo;t good enough, and we only ship the ones that survive the chamber.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
